Adrahan, Co.Galway, is located on the 1860s built Waterford Limerick & Western's built Limerick to Athenry line. Adrahan Station had a single platform, single storey stone built station building and small goods shed. The station closed to passengers when Limerick-Claremorris passenger trains ceased in 1976, but remained open for excursion traffic until the mid 1980s, but the line remained in use for regular freight trains until the late 1990s. The Limerick-Athenry line is of course part of the Western Rail Corridor and Adrahan Station will re-open for passenger traffic in 2009. Already track renewal is underway on the WRC as seen in these pictures. |
