Railway Stations C » Carrigtohill

Carrigtohill is located on the currently disused Cobh Jnc to Youghal line in Co.Cork. Regular passenger services to Youghal ceased in 1963, but the line remained in use for regular goods and Sunday excursions up to the late 1970s, but by the 1980s, the line only saw IRRS and GAA special trains. The last special train ran half way to Midleton in 1988 and since then the line had become heavily overgrown. Irish Rail plan to re-open the line as far as Midleton by 2009 and track clearances along the route have already commenced.

Carrigtohill has just one platform and a small single storey brick station building, which remains very much intact and is due to be re-opened. The goods platform opposite the station once had a corrugated iron shed, but this was removed recently to allow work to commence on clearing the line. The typical station masters house is now a private residence. These pictures were taken before, and after the clearance work which revealed much of the station.
