Railway Stations C » Castleconnell

Castleconnell is one of the small wayside stations still open on the Limerick to Ballybrophey line. The single platform station had closed in 1963, but was re-opened in 1988. A car park has now been built on the former goods yard and sidings, but the signal cabin at the north end of the station still stands, adjacent to the levelcrossing which is still manually operated. A new intensive suburban rail service to Limerick is to be introduced on the line, which will be upgraded. When I visited on filming duties the service was very limited, but hauled by 141s using cravens coaches, nowadays like the rest of the Limerick lines, it's railcars.
