Charlemount station, is in fact a Luas stop, which is located across the Grand Canal on a bridge. Heading south from Stephens Green on Luas Line B, just prior to Charlemount, the line rises sharply to gain to height of the closed 1958 Harcourt St line railway embankments. There was never a station at Charlemount in railway days, just a three span girder bridge across the canal. The short stretch of original stone railway embankment from Charlemount to Harcourt St has long since been demolished, and so trams must now pass by Harcourt St station at street level. The embankment south of Charlemount remained intact and is now used by the Luas line. These pictures were taken during and after construction of the Luas line. |
