Railway Stations C » Charleville

Charleville is located on the Limerick Jnc to Mallow section of the main Dublin--Cork line. The station has three platforms, the third on one side of the island plarform, was used briefly for a new commuter service into Cork a few years ago. A freight yard, which once had a container crane and storage area, is located at the south end of the station, and is now disused. Upgrading of the platforms in the mid 1990s led to the demolition of the old waiting room and signal cabin on the island platform, but the station facilities have been improved over the years. North of the station is Charleville Jnc, where the former closed 1967 line from Limerick via Patrickswell joined. The engineshed at the south end of Charleville station is long gone, but the water tower remains.
