This is the Midland Great
Western Railway station in Collooney on the Dublin to Sligo line. The
two story station building is one the smaller ones on the MGWR line from
Mullingar. The goods shed at the south end also remains. The former up
platform which was taken out of use by the GSR in the early 1930s has
now been demolished to allow the down platform to be widened and
extended. These pictures were taken prior to these alterations when the
platform was very short, they also show the floural displays, waiting
room and corrugated iron workmen's shed which have all been removed.
Just north of the station, the SLNCR line passes beneath the MGWR one,
and then the GSWR line from Claremorris joins the Sligo line at
Collooney North Jnc.
