Railway Stations C » Coolaney (Leyny)

This is Leyny Station, but is located in the village of Coolaney so it is otherwise known as that. The station lies on the 1895 built Claremorris to Collooney 'Burma Road', which lost its passenger service in 1963 and closed completely in 1975. The line, which remains in situ, is now part of the Western Rail Corridor and may be reopend in the future. The line has been recently cleared of vegetation and the permanent way is now been preserved for this. Coolaney has just one platform, with a typical Burma Rd station building and small goods shed. These pictures were taken before the line was cleared and they show the track in a somewhat overgrown state. The levelcrossing at the Claremorris end has been renewed with fixed picket fence, but still retains its original red X panal. Oposite the crossing I found a modern IE trespass sign, another sign of preserving the track. You can see more about the WRC and a post closure picture of Coolaney at West=on=Track.
