Docklands station, in the new residential area of Dublin's former Docklands area in the east of the city, opened on the 12th of March 2007, amidst much publicity. It is the first terminal station to be built in Dublin for quite some time, served exclusively by Maynooth line trains which traverse the MGWR line through Newcommon. It was built on the former MGWR freight yard which closed a few years earlier. Interestingly though, there was once a passenger service which ran roughly to where Dockland is now, serving the LNWR station and yard built there in the 1890s, the service was withdrawn in 1927. These pictures show the new Docklands station on it's first evening, with a new 22000 railcar on show. And later on the ITG's Docklands tour which was the first loco hauled passenger train into the new station. |
