Dromkeen, located roughly half way on the Limerick to Limerick Junction line, closed in 1977. The signal cabin however remained in use to control the loop until 1986, after which CTC was introduced on the Limerick line. The signal cabin, now a gate box, controls the levelcrossing only, and the loop has now been placed beyond the crossing at the Limerick end of the station. Pior to 1929, it was double track all the way to Limerick and Limerick Jnc, but was singled by the GSR. Dromkeen station is one of the smaller types on the line, it retains both its disused platforms, one of which strangely has a 1980s IR T-board sign, despite closure in the late 1970s. |
