The disused Dunleer Station, Co.Louth, is located on the main Dublin-Belfast line, and was the only important intermediate station between Drogheda and Dundalk. The station retains much of its Great Northern Railway style architecture, such as the red brick single storey station building complete with canopy, along with a larger earlier Dublin & Belfast Jnc Railway 1850s built building. Both up & down platforms, along with the goods shed remains. The signal cabin was demolished in 1996, it had been 'switched out' for some time, and was removed following the upgrading of the Belfast line with CTC signalling. The station had closed in 1984, but has recently been proposed for reopening. |
