Railway Stations D » Durrow

Durrow, Co.Waterford, was located on the Waterford to Mallow line, first opened by the Waterford Dungarvan & Lismore Railway in 1878. The Mallow-Waterford line closed in 1967, however track lifting had yet to reach Mallow by 1970, and the section from Ballinacourty (Dungarvan) to Waterford was retained for magnesite traffic which ceased in 1982. The weed sprayer was the only train to traverse the line during the 1980s. The last train to run of the line was 141 Class loco 146, which was followed by an inspection car EM50 in May 1990. The track was then lifted in the late 1990s.

Durrow Station, which also served the nearby village of Stradbally, had up & down platforms, with single storey stone built station building and signal cabin. There are also two large viaducts near Durrow, and west of the station is the 434 yard long tunnel.
