Irish Locomotives » 001 Class

The 60 locomotives of the Irish Rail A Class, later 001 Class, were numbered A1-A60, and 001-060 respectively.

Irish Rail Liveries 1955-1995:  The A/001 Class locomotives had of course carried numerous liveries during their 40 year career on Irish Rail, some experimental so I'll try and keep thing as simple as possible. As this class were withdrawn before the time I began photographing Irish Rail I therefore only have a few images of my own to show.

CIE silver + flying snail logo (1955-1958)

CIE green with white waist band* + flying snail logo (1958-1964)

CIE black + broken wheel logo (1964-1969)

CIE black with yellow warning panels (1969-1969)*

CIE black & tan + broken wheel logo (1969-1973)

CIE black & orange 'Super Train' + broken wheel logo (1973-1987)

IR black & orange with white stripes + IR point logo (1987-1994)

*only applied to small number of locos
