The 18 locomotives of the Irish Rail 071 Class are numbered from 071-088. No.082 is unique in being the only IR loco in the class to be named, carrying a nameplate on its cabside 'The Institute of Engineers of Ireland'. Identical to the IR 071 Class are three of Northern Ireland Railways 111 Class, delivered between 1981-84, Nos. 111 'Great Northern', Nos. 112 'Northern Counties', (8)113 'Belfast & County Down', all carry NIR's all over blue livery with warning panels. Irish Rail Liveries 1976-2007-: CIE black & orange 'Super Train' + broken wheel logo (1976-1987) IR black & orange with white stripes + IR point logo (1987-1994) IE black & orange with white stripes + IE plug & socket logo (1994-2007) IE black & silver 'Railfreight Livery' with yellow warning panels + IE plug & socket logo (2007- ) Current 071 Class operations (Passenger+Freight): - At present the class undertake a range of un-diagramed passenger services from Dublin Heuston to mainly mid western locations as well as permanent way trains. - Loaded/unloaded Tara Mines (Navan) to Alexandra Road (North Wall) zinc & load ore trains. - Loaded/unloaded timber trains between Dublin-Sligo, Dublin-Waterford, Dublin-Westport. - Loaded/unloaded Norfolk Liner container trains from Waterford (Belview) to Ballina via Kildare. - Loaded/unloaded Cork to Dublin (North Wall), Platin (Drogheda) to Dublin (North Wall), and Tullamore to Dublin (North Wall) cement trains. |
