Railway Stations K » Kilbride

Kilbride, Co.Mayo, is more of a located just south of Newport on the former Westport to Achill line, which opened in the 1890s and closed as early as 1937 by the GSR. South of Newport town the line encountered one of two tunnels in the area. Both of these remain, however I was unable to gain close enough access to photograph them properly, perhaps another time! It should be noted the MGWR actual tried to avoid these tunnels and during initial construction a deviation line was built around part of them which remains to this today, but was abandoned in favour of a tunnel.
