Railway Stations P » Platin Cement Works

Platin Cement Works, which is located in Co.Meath on the western outskirts of Drogheda town on the freight only Navan branch of the GNR, was opened in 1977 and became the main source of cement in the northern part of the country, regularly dispatching bulk and bagged cement trains as well as taking in gypsum mineral from Kingscourt, which unfortunately ceased in 2001. The cement works has both extensive sidings on either side of the line, but these days only the few on the up side remain in use, this being for bulk cement. It is thought that the cement works will shortly discontinue with its rail service.
