Up Railway Stations R » Ruane

Ruane Station, Co.Clare, served only a town land between Ennis and Corofin on the West Clare's 1887/95 constructed narrow gauge line, which ran from Ennis to Kilkee and Kilrush. The West Clare line was the last narrow gauge railway in Ireland, finally closing in 1961. Despite the sparse population Ruane had a large station building, which remains to this day, complete with its original gable end boards. The width between the former level crossing stone posts suggests the station once had a loop or siding, though most small stations on the West Clare only had a single platform. The concrete base of what I believe is the former signal cabin also remains.
