Up Railway Stations C » Clondalkin

Clondalkin, west Dublin City, was first served by rail when the Great Southern & Western Railway opened their main line from Dublin to Carlow in 1846. The station had up & down platforms, footbridge and the typical GSWR small single storey building on the up side, built similarly to type at Hazelhatch. The signal cabin was located on the down platform at the north end of the station next to the road overbridge and was taken out of use in 1976. There was a goods yard and shed also located on the down side of the station. Clondalkin was closed in 1947 by CIE, but with the city's extension westwards in recent years it reopened with the new commuter service to Kildare in 1994. The station finally closed for good in October 2008, been replaced by a newer station, Clondalkin & Fonthill. The station has since been completely demolished as part of the Kildare Route Project.
