Up Railway Stations V » Verners Bridge

Verners Bridge, Co.Tyrone, was located on the former Great Northern Railway's route from Portadown to Derry, known as the 'Derry Road'. The route was built by the Portadown & Dungannon Railway in 1858, and later operated by the Ulster Railway and then the GNR. The single storey station building was located on the up platform, and is an unusual single storey structure unlike other station buildings on the route, it survives as a private residence, as does the stone built goods shed, now used for storage. Access to the goods shed was from a small ground frame at the south end of the station. The station once had a down platform, but was taken out of use when the double line from Portadown to Trew & Moy was removed in 1960. The line was closed five years later in 1965 by the Ulster Transport Authority.
