Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park, originally scheduled to open during 2007, did not open until January 2008, is the newest station on the ex Midland Great Western Railway's Dublin to Sligo line, and is served almost exclusively by Dublin to Maynooth, Dunboyne and Docklands commuter trains. Located some distance north of the well known park on the outskirts of Dublin City's suburbs, the station is located between Ashtown and Castleknock, and has a large park & ride facility located by the adjacent Navan Road and M50 motorway, something which the nearby 1904 built Ashtown Station could never provide for this area. The modern booking office is located above the running lines, and has a characteristic retaining wall which runs the length of the down platform. The platforms are fitted out with basic shelters and benches.
A 2-car 2800 Class railcar, headed by No.2802, arrives into the then newly opened Phoenix Park Station, with a morning stopping service from Maynooth to Dublin. As can be seen, the modern booking office at the Phoenix Park spans the main line tracks. 22000 Class 'Intercity' railcar No.22012 leads a late running morning Silgo to Dublin service through the station. 29000 Class railcar No.29423 stands at the down platform at the Phoenix Park Station while working a Dublin to Maynooth service. Most services on the Maynooth line are formed of these units. Seen rounding the long curve at the eastern end of Phoenix Park is 071 Class locomotive No.082, leading the 12:20 Dublin North Wall to Sligo empty timber train. The timber traffic from Sligo has since ceased.
Railcar No.29120 departs Phoenix Park on a local service to Maynooth. 70mph running resumes following the severe aforementioned curve on the station's approach. 22000 Class railcar No.22012 looks well as it approaches Phoenix Park Station with the morning 9:00 Sligo to Dublin train, formed of two 3-car units. 071 Class No.073 storms through the Phoenix Park Station with the empty timber wagons from Waterford, bound for Sligo where they would return loaded the following day. 29000 Class railcar No.29404 heads away from Phoenix Park Station with a service to Clonsilla.
No.29404 is seen again, emerging from a somewhat rural setting at the west end of Phoenix Park Station with a service to the Docklands terminus in Dublin City. The down side of Phoenix Park station features this high retaining wall, with 'DART' style block pattern. Modern IE warning sign at the Dublin end of Phoenix Park Station. The nearby Ashtown Station is out of sight around the bend. Although bearing the name 'Phoenix Park', the station is in fact located some distance away from Dublin City's well known park, with Ashtown Station being somewhat nearer.
