Kilmallock

Kilmallock, Co.Limerick, is located north of Charleville on the Great Southern & Western Railway's Dublin to Cork main line. The station, although serving a large enough village, was closed in March 1976. Today, the derelict 1849 built GSWR station buildings remain on the up side of the line. These include the main building and water tower. Part of the down platform remains however. The disused Victorian footbridge remained in situ until 2009. The station remained a block post until 1988, when the signal cabin was finally closed.
In 2006, Kilmallock Station retained much of its original Great Southern & Western Railway built buildings, complete with footbridge and former down platform. This view is looking south towards Cork. The large station building on the up side of the line at Kilmallock. The station was opened by the GSWR in March 1849, but was closed by CIE on the 27th March 1977. The structure is now derelict. This was the disused footbridge at Kilmallock Station. The bridge has since been removed. Visible to the right of the structure is the water tower, complete with tank.
