Ballinrobe

Ballinrobe, Co.Mayo, is the terminus of a former Midland Great Western branch from Claremorris. The branch opened in 1892 and had one intermediate station at Holymount. Livestock was an important traffic on the branch, the town been an important market centre. The branch's motive power was steam right to the end, when on the 31st December 1959 it closed. The station buildings at Ballinrobe survive, these consist of the main building, goods shed, water tower and even coal staithes. The goods yard is used as a timber yard now, but the engine shed has been demolished
