Barnagh

Barnagh, west Co.Limerick, was located on the GSWR's Limerick to Tralee line, known more commonly as the 'North Kerry Line'. The section from Limerick through Barnagh to Tralee opened in 1880. Passenger services on the North Kerry Line ceased in 1963, but the line remained in use until 1977 for goods traffic. The track lay in a derelict state with only infrequent weed spraying trains visiting the line in the 1980s. The track was finally lifted in 1988. Barnagh Station is derelict, but retains its platform with corrugated iron hut. The N21 road is to the left of the pictures. This section of line is now part of the Great Southern Trail.
