Ballygawley

Ballintogher Station, Co.Sligo, was located on the Sligo Leitrim & Northern Counties line which ran between Sligo and Enniskillen, opened in 1881. The SLNCR line closed in 1957 and the track was lifted sometime round 1959. The halt at Ballygawley was located just off the main R290 road in the village and consisted of just a short platform, name board and hut. Unfortunately the halt site has since been built over and today no trace remains apart from the trackbed east and west of the village.

This is the site of the level crossing just east of Ballygalwey on the R290 road at Castle Dargan. The former trackbed is straight ahead. The typical SLNCR gate keepers house has unfortunately been demolished. An SLNCR semaphore signal was once mounted here on the side of the cutting on the approaching to the R290 road level crossing east of Ballygawley village.
